Riverfront Cultural District

Overview

The Riverfront Cultural District master plan reimagines the Hooghly River edge as a continuous public realm connecting Howrah's historic neighborhoods with new cultural institutions.

The plan includes a performing arts center, an open-air amphitheater, artist studios, galleries, a craft market, restaurants, and extensive public gardens. A network of pedestrian promenades and cycle paths weaves these elements together, punctuated by lookouts, plaza spaces, and ghats that reconnect the city with its river.

The design is rooted in the principle of "soft urbanism" — allowing the program to evolve organically while the infrastructure framework ensures coherence.
